Engineering
Miami, FL (March 19, 2007) – Sixty-two students from FIU’s College of Engineering and Computing China
cohort participated in the graduation ceremony held in Beijing, China, Saturday, March 17, 2007. These
students will receive a Master’s of Science in Electrical Engineering from FIU.
Attendees from FIU included, Dr. Vish Prasad, Executive Dean of the College of Engineering and Computing,
Dr. Jainendra K. Navlakha, Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the College of Engineering and Computing
and Dr. A. Douglas Kincaid, Vice Provost for International Studies. “I am extremely proud of this program and of
the hard work and dedication all of you have demonstrated,” said Dean Prasad during his remarks.
The cohort between The College of Engineering and Computing at FIU, and the College of Software at Beihang
University (Beijing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics) began in May 2005 with 42 students. Since then
the program has continued to grow with 63 students who began in 2006, and 82 students who will begin in May
2007. One of the students from the 1st cohort is currently pursuing his PhD in Electrical Engineering at FIU’s
main campus in Miami, Florida.
The College of Engineering and Computing has forged numerous alliances with institutions abroad for the
purpose of involving their faculty and students in collaborative research and training programs. This particular
cooperation began as a result of FIU’s relationship with Dr. Wei Sun, Dean of the College of Software, at
Beihang University, who was previously a faculty member at the School of Computing and Information Sciences
at FIU.
